HeyGen Free Trial - What Can You Actually Make for $0?
HeyGen can be tested free without entering a credit card. It is technically an ongoing free plan, not a timed trial. The public pricing page lists up to three one-minute videos per month, while the help center notes that the available quota can vary from one to three videos by region.
Start with the $0 account
Check the allowance shown in your region and put a real script through the platform before paying. No credit card is required for the standard free plan.
Try HeyGen Free
That distinction matters because a normal software trial usually unlocks a paid plan for a fixed number of days. This offer works differently. You can keep the $0 account, but production length, export options, processing speed and access to higher-cost generation models are restricted.
The free account is still useful. It gives you enough room to judge the two things that matter most before buying an avatar platform: whether the presenter looks believable and whether the voice, pacing and lip movement survive a real script.
This guide uses the current public pricing page and recently updated help-center documentation. Limits can change by account and region, so confirm the allowance shown inside your own dashboard before planning a campaign.
HeyGen free plan limits
The pricing page currently lists three videos per month, one custom video avatar and more than 500 stock avatars. It also describes limited access to premium features such as newer avatar models, Video Agent and lip-sync translation.
The help center adds an important qualification: some regions receive one to three free videos rather than a guaranteed three. It also describes the free delivery as a 720p sharing link, while the pricing comparison reserves higher-resolution export and watermark removal for paid plans.
In other words, the free level is built for evaluation. It is not a dependable production allowance for a daily publishing schedule.
What you can evaluate before paying
Start with a stock presenter. This removes the variables introduced by custom-avatar training and lets you judge the editor, voices, scene timing and overall rendering quality first.
Then use the custom-avatar slot if it appears in your account. The pricing page currently lists one custom video avatar on the free tier. Availability and creation requirements can depend on the type of avatar you choose, and real-time LiveAvatar products have separate plans and rules.
A one-minute cap sounds tight, but it is enough for a meaningful test. A natural script of roughly 120 to 150 spoken words will reveal pacing problems, pronunciation errors, odd pauses and any visual stiffness around sentence changes.
You can also inspect the available voices and languages. Do not test with a two-line greeting. Use words, product names and phrases you actually expect the avatar to say. If your brand uses technical language, add that language now rather than discovering pronunciation trouble after upgrading.
What to prepare before opening the account
Write three scripts before you register. Keep the first around 30 seconds, the second close to the one-minute limit and the third in the exact format you expect to publish. Preparing them in advance prevents the limited generation allowance from being spent while you are still deciding what to say.
Collect the correct pronunciation for names, products and industry language. If the platform provides pronunciation controls in your account, test them against the same difficult phrase. A voice that sounds natural on ordinary words can still stumble over acronyms, URLs and numbers.
Decide how you will score the output. We recommend five criteria: facial realism, voice fit, pronunciation, timing and publishability. Give each video a score from one to five and write down the change that would raise the score. That creates a buying record instead of relying on the initial novelty of seeing an avatar speak your script.
A three-video test that answers the buying question
- Run a clean baseline. Use a stock avatar, a plain background and a 30-second script. This isolates voice and facial quality from templates and effects.
- Use a difficult real-world script. Add names, acronyms, numbers and changes in tone. Listen with headphones and watch the mouth movement at normal speed.
- Build the format you would publish. Create a vertical sales, social or training clip with the assets and pacing you would use after paying.
Save the scripts and make notes after every render. If all three tests use different scripts, different presenters and different layouts without a scorecard, the monthly quota disappears and you still do not know whether the tool fits.
When the paid level becomes necessary
The Creator plan is the logical upgrade for an individual who wants to publish finished work. As of this update, it starts at $29 per month and includes 600 monthly credits, videos up to 30 minutes, 1080p export, faster processing, voice cloning, more languages, watermark removal and expanded avatar use.
The Pro level starts at $49 per month with 1,000 credits and 4K export. Higher Pro tiers scale the credit allowance. Business starts substantially higher and is aimed at teams that need collaboration, governance and additional avatar capacity.
| Level | Current starting price | Best use | Key limitation or gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Quality testing | One-minute videos and limited output |
| Creator | $29/month | Individual production | 1080p, watermark removal and 600 credits |
| Pro | $49/month | Higher-volume creators | 4K and scalable monthly credits |
| Business | $149/month plus seats | Teams | Collaboration, longer videos and governance |
Credits matter more than the headline video-length limit. Newer avatar engines, translation and generated assets can consume credits at different rates. Estimate the kind of output you intend to make, not just the number of videos listed in a plan.
Resolution also changes the decision. A small social clip may look acceptable in a preview while a course lesson, sales presentation or large-screen video exposes softer details. Export or share the free result at the highest level allowed, then watch it on the device where the final audience will see it.
What the $0 account does not prove
A successful manual render does not automatically prove that an automated publishing system will work. API access and API pricing are separate from the standard creator plans, and high-volume automation introduces retry logic, status checks, error handling, file storage and downstream publishing.
If your goal is a workflow that sends scripts into an avatar generator and publishes completed videos, test the human-facing product first. Only then price the API and build the automation layer. This prevents a slick workflow from hiding weak presenter quality.
Plan for approval and failed renders as well. An automated request may be accepted before generation later fails. Production workflows should store the job identifier, check status, stop duplicate submissions and alert a person when the result needs attention. Our beginner n8n training guide covers the workflow skills behind that process.
Our guide to an AI video clone course explains what a complete training path should cover when avatar creation and n8n automation are part of the same system.
If the finished avatar clips also need animated captions, b-roll or short-form formatting, compare the editing layer in our Submagic evaluation.
Who should start here
The $0 account is a strong fit for a marketer, trainer, creator or business owner who has not used a realistic avatar platform before. It is also useful when you need to compare the same script across two or three competing services.
It is a poor fit for judging weekly output capacity. Three short renders cannot show what happens when you produce dozens of assets, revise scripts repeatedly or need fast processing against a deadline.
Use the account to answer a narrow question: can this platform make a presenter you would be comfortable publishing? If the answer is yes, the paid decision becomes a matter of credits, resolution, speed and workflow requirements.
Questions buyers ask
Is a credit card required?
No. The standard $0 account does not require a card. A separate product or promotional offer may have different terms, so read the checkout screen before confirming anything.
Will the account expire after a set number of days?
The standard offer is an ongoing free level rather than a seven-day or fourteen-day countdown. Its usage limits refresh according to the terms displayed in the account.
How many videos are included?
The public pricing page advertises three videos per month. Current help documentation says free availability can range from one to three videos depending on region.
Can the watermark be removed?
Watermark removal is listed as a paid-plan feature. Check the preview and final delivery method in your own account before publishing.
Can it be used for automated video production?
Yes, but production automation normally requires separate API access, a paid usage allowance and a workflow platform. The browser-based free account is best treated as a quality test.
Bottom line
The offer is worth using before you subscribe. It removes the credit-card barrier and provides enough output to test avatar quality, voice, pacing and the editor. Treat it as a controlled audition, not as a free content engine.
